Someone asked: why dance?

Yolanda Lozano at the board

In her words, Yolanda Lozano, who holds the Friday dance

  1. I enjoy connecting with spiritual community. Ecstatic Dance allows me to share this experience without needing to give away my energy.
  2. What I love about this great Space is the freedom I experience when I move my body at my own pace without the need to perform, and to be with my own feelings without talking.
  3. While the music plays I am safe to feel my own emotions without needing to worry about what I look like.
  4. When I consent to dance with someone, it's my own choice for how long, and if I wish to be touched or not.
  5. In the Dance Space, we create an atmosphere that makes movement completely free to dance or simply sit and notice what we're feeling.
  6. Many times I have experienced processing what wasn't yet in my awareness until I closed my eyes during Ecstatic Dance.
  7. For me, having the freedom to move however I want, as long as I want, and rest in a safe sober Space, helps me to move forward in my process.
  8. Dancing helps me to release old energy and tension, so there's new Space to create. It's energizing and it heals my emotions. 💕

What dancing does for the body and mind

  1. Creates a pattern interrupt, helping to shift perspective
  2. Encourages expression and emotional release
  3. Promotes connection and co-regulation with dance partners
  4. Invites silliness and playfulness, breaking stress patterns
  5. One of the most accessible ways to listen to your body's instincts as you move to the music
  6. Challenges balance, engaging the vestibular system
  7. Boosts endorphins, improving mood instantly (try not to smile during a dance party)
  8. Shifts focus from worries to the present moment

See you on the floor Friday.
