Chicago, IL
Every Wednesday evening at Hairpin Arts Center in Logan Square — Chicago Ecstatic Dance (formerly Rhythm Sanctuary Chicago) carries forward a lineage that began with ecstaticdancechicago.com, the grandfather of ecstatic dance in this city.
For years, ecstaticdancechicago.com held the original container — the first regular ecstatic dance many of us ever found in this city. That work seeded a community of dancers, DJs, and facilitators who have been moving together for more than a decade.
The legacy continues. Chicago Ecstatic Dance (formerly known as Rhythm Sanctuary Chicago) now hosts the weekly Wednesday-night dance at the Hairpin Arts Center, keeping the substance-free, non-verbal, fully-expressed dance floor alive for a new generation.
Every Wednesday. Doors 7:00pm, opening circle 7:30pm, dance journey 7:45pm. No entry after 8:30pm.
Hairpin Arts Center · 2810 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60618 — Logan Square.
Reserve in advance on Eventbrite. No refunds. In person only.
Join every Wednesday evening for a space devoted to free-form movement, authentic expression, and the freedom to move through whatever is alive in you. A midweek pause — a moment to step out of the mind and drop fully into the wisdom of the body.
Each week, the DJs weave an intentional soundscape that evolves with the collective energy of the room. Emotion, breath, sound, sweat, and stillness all have a place. Nothing to get right. Nothing to perform. Just presence.
This is your space to move freely and follow your body's truth.
Come as you are, fully present.
We connect through movement, breath, and presence rather than words.
The dance floor remains a private realm for internal exploration and collective trust.
Tickets and exact DJ lineup confirmed each week on Eventbrite.
Long before Wednesday nights at the Hairpin, the container we now gather inside was shaped by Rhythm Sanctuary — a substance-free, non-verbal ecstatic dance lineage built around the idea of the dance floor as a sanctuary for the body.
The original Rhythm Sanctuary container — rhythmsanctuary.com — set the tone: presence over performance, breath over words, one room moving together.
Kate carried Rhythm Sanctuary to Chicago and held the local container as it took root here. More about Kate.
Rhythm Sanctuary Chicago made a name for itself at Altar Community, a space devoted to ceremony, music, and intentional gathering.
The Wednesday-night dance now lives at the Hairpin Arts Center in Logan Square — and continues as Chicago Ecstatic Dance.
